Structural Collapse
11 W. Main St.
Hotel Gunter


On Saturday, Feb 20th at 08:30 hrs company 16 was alerted for an automatic fire alarm at 11 W. Main St, Failinger's Hotel Gunter. Upon arrival E164 laid dual 3" supply lines from the hydrant at Water and Main to the A-D cornor of the building. Truck 16 posistioned and set up aerial operations at the A-B cornor of the building. Shaft engine 172 set up just behing Truck 16 after laying duals.
Mt. Savage engine 152 proceeded to the rear of the building after dropping 5" LDH at the hydrant at the cornor of Water and First St. LaVale Truck 2 posistioned and set up aerial operations from the rear (B-C cornor) of the structure. The crew from E164 made entry into the structure and were assisting occupants from the structure as well as investigating the source of the alarm, with the crew from E172 assisting. Upon investigation crews found a small portion of the roof to be collapsed in the dining hall, a few moments later the major collapse happened. At this time
Chief 16 called for the Allegany County Special Operation: Collapse Team to respond to the scene. A primary search was conducted and all of the occupants were evacuated and housed in the American Legion during the operation. The Structural Collapse team stabilized the collapse area. Around this time command determined that 3 people were missing and unaccounted for. At this time the operation again became a rescue mission. A secondary search was conducted with all rooms of the structure being searched, but the 3 people still remained unaccounted for. The collapse team brought in equipment to begin searching the rubble pile. Command soon learned that the missing people were accounted for and were not home throughout the entire incident, thus ending the rescue opperation. Crews remained at the scene until approximently 14:30 hours. The building was temparary condemmed by the city building inspector and the state fire marshalls office until the necessary repairs were made to the structure and the fire alarm system. Chief 16, Blubaugh, had West Main St Command, Assistant
Chiefs 16A, DeVault, and 16C, Wilt, handled operations.
Safety Officer 16B, Edwards had overal safety command, with LT16, Briskey, SGT16, Sneeringer, and FF Kesner assisting. Deputy Chief 53A Jay Delauter handled EMS operations.

Automatic Fire Alarm
129 W. Main St

On Friday Feb 19 around 22:15 hrs Co 16 was alerted for the smoke alarm sounding in a residence at 129 W Main St. Chief 16, Truck 16, and E164 responded and investigated. Units found a faulty battery in a detector on the 2nd floor caused the problem. Chief 16 had West Main St command. Units on Scene Chief 16, Engine 164, Truck 16, Engine 172.

 

Structural Collapse
141 Maple St

On Friday Feb 19th around 14:10 hrs Co 16 was alerted for a porch roof that collapsed at 141 Maple St. Truck 16, Squad 16, and Utility 16 responded along with the Frostburg City Building Inspector. Units for the porch roof collapsed and all occupants out of the structure. Units secured utilities and determined that the structure was safe for re-entry. Assistant Chief 16 Hovatter had Maple St command. Units on scene Truck 16, Utility 16, Squad 16.

 

MVC
Pedestrian vs SHA Plow Truck
Rt. 40 and Frostburg Memorials

On Monday, Jan 11th around 19:00 hrs Co 16 was alerted to respond to an MVC Pedestrian vs SHA Plow truck. Apon arrival responders found a male pt who had been hit and was bleeding from the buttocks. Pt loaded into A364 and transported to WMRMC. Units on Scene: Chief 16, Utility 16, Engine 164, Engine 162, A364, Valley Medical, MSP, SHA.

 

Auto Fire
Kemp Drive

On Monday, Jan 11th around 13:00 hrs Co 16 was alerted for a Auto Fire at 11815 Kemp Dr, just west of the city. Engine 164 and Engine 162 responded. Crew extinguished the blaze in the pickup truck. Units on scene Engine 164, Engine 162, Eastern Garrett Tanker 86.

 

Kitchen Fire

Mutual Aid to Co 15

On Sunday, Jan 10th, around 22:00 Company 16 was alerted to respond Mutual Aid to a Kitchen Fire on Mt. Savage Rd near Barrelville Rd. Engine 302, Wellersburg, arrived on scene and reported smoke showing from the structure. Engine 152, Mt. Savage arrived on scene and found a Kitchen stove was on fire, the stove was removed from the structure and the structure was then ventilated due to a large amount off smoke still inside. Fire damage was contained to the kitchen. Units on Scene: Mt. Savage, E152, Tanker 15, Sq 15, A379; Wellersburg, E302, Tanker 30,
Sq30; Frostburg, E164, Sq 16; Ellersile, ET6, A360; LaVale, Sq 2; Shaft E171 and Clarysville ET14 were on standby at Sta. 15.

 

Lines Down
Center and Mechanic St.

On Saturday, Jan 9th around 18:20 hrs Co 16 was alerted for Lines down at the intersection of Center St and Mechanic St. by 7 Eleven. Chief 16 responded and was placed in service by Frostburg PD who was on the scene and placed some cones out for traffic control.

 

Automatic Fire Alarm

On Saturday, Jan 9th Co 16 was alerted for an Automatic Fire alarm at the Main St Hanger. Chief 16 responded and placed all units in service. Units alerted Engine and Truck 16, Truck 2, Engine 17, Engine 15.

 

Working House Fire
Upper Georges Creek RD
Mutual Aid to Co 17

On Jan 3rd, Around 19:50 units were alerted for a possible basement fire on Upper George's Creek Rd in company 17's first due. Initial alert was for companies 17 (Shaft), 18 (Midland) and 16 (Frostburg). Engine 182 and Engine 171, Truck 16 and Engine 164 went en route. After arriving on scene command requested the working fire alarm bringing additional mutual aid units to the scene. Engine 172 set up water supply into Engine 171. Truck 16 arrived on scene and began laddering the structure. Units on scene were Shaft (E171 & E172), Midland (E182, SQ18 & B18), Frostburg (E164 & TR16), Clarysville (Air 14), Good Will (E/R 20 & U20), Bowling Green (Q/R 8 & U8) and Frostburg Area Ambulance (A364 which transported a patient to WMRMC with smoke inhalation & A355 on fire standby at the scene). Engine Tanker 14 stood by at Sta 17. Deputy Chief 17, Chapman had Upper Georges Creek Rd Command and Assistant Chief 17A, Pfister, had operations.

 

Apartment Fire
146 Spring St

Co. 16 had the first Fire of the new year, on Jan 1, around 00:47 hrs. Co 16, 17, 15, and 2 were alerted for an apartment fire at 146 Spring St. FPD arrived on scene and reported nothing showing. Truck 16 and Engine 171 arrived almost at the same time. E171 laid in from the hydrant at Warns Ln and Spring St. Asst. Chief 16A, DeVault established command and advised there to be light smoke in the structure, fire was found in the insulation in the bottom of the refrigerator. Command placed all units except T16 and E171 in service.
